Source: Greencastle Banner-Times, 9 Jan 1896 p 3

James Gillespey, one of the oldest citizens of the county, died suddenly last evening at his home at the foot of west Washington street. Mr. Gillespey was in his usual good health and was sitting in a chair. About 8:30 oclock he gave a call for aid and was a corpse in a short time. Mr. Gillespey was 74 years of age and had resided in this county most of his life. He was one of the early merchants of the city, but in later years resided alone on a farm south of the city, moving to Greencastle, however, a few years ago.  He was never married. He was a genial kind disposition and had many friends and acquaintances over the county. Deceased was a distance relative of the late James G. Blaine. The  physicians held an autopsy this morning and state Mr. Gillespey died of rupture of the heart. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock from the family residence.
